RACQ has warned drivers to avoid travel on the roads unless absolutely necessary.

The Bruce Highway was cut in both directions on Friday morning, isolating Ingham residents.

RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie said there was still more than 150 roads closed due to flooding, hazards or debris over the road.

“While the rain has subsided there will be considerable flooding experienced in North Queensland well into the weekend,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Disappointingly police have reported a number of motorists have attempted to drive through flood waters or around road closures.

“Drivers must expect there will be significant disruption to their journeys in the coming days and they will need to heed the warnings of authorities about whether or not a road is safe to cross.”
