More Queenslanders on the hunt to find a fair fuel price
More Queenslanders are turning to RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder to combat record high fuel prices, with the app receiving a 74% increase in downloads during the month of August.
The Club’s fuel comparison app was used by 70,000 motorists to find the cheapest fuel near them, helping to ease ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
RACQ’s Principal Economic and Affordability Specialist Dr Ian Jeffreys said record high fuel prices of 229.9 cents per litre (cpl) for unleaded petrol (ULP) had left motorists feeling the pinch.
“The cost-of-living crisis is top of mind for many Queenslanders and the exceptionally high prices of petrol and diesel have only added to these pressures,” Dr Jeffreys said.
“During August, Brisbane saw a new record high daily average price of 223.4 cpl on 24 August 2023, with many individual sites priced at 229.9cpl. At these times doing your homework and seeking out cheaper sites is more important than ever.”
Dr Jeffries also said using the Fair Fuel Finder app and shopping around to get the best deal helps drive competition between service stations.
“Buying from the cheapest sites not only helps you save, but it also drives competition as the expensive sites will only drop their prices when they start to lose business to their cheaper rivals.
“If you live in South East Queensland, RACQ’s app will also send a notification when your local market is entering the cheap phase of the cycle which can be handy to capitalise on filling up when the prices are at their lowest.”
RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder app is available for IOS and Android and can be downloaded here.
