Geely confirms EX2 compact EV for Australia in 2026
Geely confirms compact EV as third new model in its expanding local fleet.

Chinese car maker Geely has confirmed the compact electric EX2 hatch will be the third model to join its expanding local lineup in 2026.
Due in the in the second half of 2026, the Geely EX2 is described as a compact city car that combines a playful aesthetic with a tech-driven cabin and comfortable yet nimble driving experience.
Based on the same Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform as the already established Geely EX5 EV and Starray EM-i Super Hybrid, the Geely EX2 showcases the platform’s flexibility by sending its drive to the rear wheels where its platform-stablemates are front-wheel drive.

Slightly shorter in overall length than a Hyundai i30 hatchback but riding on a longer wheelbase, Geely claims the EX2 demonstrates exceptional use of interior space with over 30 thoughtfully placed storage compartments, including a ‘frunk’ under the bonnet.
Sold as the Xingyuan (Star Wish) in its Chinese home market the EX2 targets younger buyers as a first car and is claimed to be the overall bestselling vehicle in China in 2025, shifting over 400,000 units in the 12 months since its launch.
The EX2 is sold in China with a choice of 30kWh and 40kWh batteries with rear-wheel drive motor outputs of 58kW/130Nm and 85kW/150Nm respectively.
Geely hasn’t yet confirmed pricing or model lineup but it is expected the newcomer will challenge BYD’s Atto 1 for the title of Australia’s cheapest EV.

The recently launched BYD Atto 1 compact electric hatchback is priced from just $23,990 plus on-road costs, making it Australia’s cheapest EV, undercutting small ICE-powered models like the Suzuki Swift, Mazda 2, and Toyota Yaris.
The single-motor front-wheel drive hatch comes in two variants with different power outputs and two different size batteries.
The entry-level Essential delivers 65kW/175Nm and features a 30kWh battery with up to 220km of range, while the Premium ($27,990) steps up to 115kW/220Nm and gets a 43.2kWh battery offering up to 310km (WLTP).
