Eagers Automotive and RACQ are hosting an EV Test Drive Day where you can learn everything you need to know about owning an electric vehicle (EV) and get a feel for driving one.

Registrations are open for the five one-hour sessions which will be held at the RACQ Mobility Centre in the Brisbane suburb of Cornubia on Wednesday 15 May 2024.

The popularity of EVs continues to rise, with the latest quarterly sales update from the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) EV Index revealing that buyers are continuing to shift towards electric vehicles and the market share of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles is declining.

The report, which analyses all new light vehicle sales across the country in the three months to 31 March 2024, found that ICE sales fell by 8.03% and ICE market share dropped to 78.18%, falling below 80% for the first time.

Meanwhile, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales continued to grow strongly, reaching 8.7% market share.

The EV Test Drive Day offers participants the chance to find out what all the fuss is about and get behind the wheel of up to three EVs from a list including some of the most popular models – BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, BYD Dolphin, MG4, Kia EV9 Air, Kia EV6 Air, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

RACQ Events Manager Tamara Van Der Walt said the Mobility Centre’s 3.5km road circuit gave members interested in switching to a battery-powered vehicle the opportunity to drive an EV in a safe, controlled environment.

“If you are considering buying an EV, this is a great chance to experience the difference between battery power and a petrol power,” Ms Van Der Walt said.

“This may also help you decide which vehicle model is the best option for you to buy. There will also be representatives of the RACQ Car Buying Service, provided by Eagers, on hand to answer questions and help with your decision.”
