Kids dig new way to have fun in Scenic Rim
New mini excavator theme park experience helps kids graduate from the sandpit to a construction zone while learning about teamwork and safety.
A new mini excavator park for kids at Tamborine Mountain could be just the thing for training the next generation of heavy equipment operators.
Dig It, Australia's first mini excavator park for kids, is now open on Tamborine Mountain, with the operators describing it as “the best, dirtiest fun ever!”
Situated an hour’s drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast at Thunderbird Park in the Scenic Rim, the mini excavator park gives kids the chance to graduate from the sand pit to operating a mini excavator in an outdoor construction zone.
The new theme park experience has been custom-designed for both children and playful parents and features a range of fun, educational and engaging activities that will help kids learn about the construction industry, earthworks, engineering and workplace safety, without a phone or tablet screen in sight.
Kids will gain get hands-on experience operating a mini excavator, digging and moving dirt and rocks, with experienced instructors teaching the basics of excavation and safety.
At the completion of each challenge, the kids receive an induction card, certifying they have been fully inducted into the Dig It worksite.
In addition to learning to operate a 1.7 tonne excavator in the Dig Zone, kids also get to experience the Demolition Zone, where the challenge is to use the wrecking ball to knock over the Dig It towers.
Other exercises include the Croc Zone, where the operators must use precision to try and hook a croc, and the RC Zone where kids learn to operate state-of-the-art remote-control machines like dozers, dump trucks, excavators and rear loaders.
The range of Mini Excavator Challenges utilises a fleet of nine Queensland-made CAT mini-excavators and is a great way for kids to test their skills and compete against their friends, while learning about the importance of teamwork and safety.
Safety is a priority throughout the two-hour Dig It experience, with all operators trained and experienced, all safety equipment provided and all activities age-appropriate.
The Dig It mini excavator park is open at Thunderbird Park, Tamborine Mountain, with a two-hour session costing $45 per participant.
