Spend five days in the twin towns of 1770 and Agnes Water enjoying golden beaches, creative locals and the laid-back rhythms of the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival – a boutique three‑day event that has been rocking since 2008.

Festival roots and spirit

Since its inaugural event in 2008, the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival has grown from a passionate local music gathering into a beloved cultural draw for Central Queensland and beyond.

The festival spans three days – 20-22 February in 2026. It now features two stages: the Marquee main stage for headline acts, and the Discovery Stage, launched in 2020, which gives emerging artists a vibrant platform in a more intimate setting.

The festival is as much about supporting community as it is about music - proceeds have been shared with local organisations.

Despite being regional, the event draws artists and crowds from across Queensland and Australia, with varied blues, roots, rock, folk and soul lineups.

For 2026, major acts like Dragon among the headliners and more than 30 artists will have you moving and grooving to live, soulful performances under the stars.

The drive

If setting out from Brisbane, follow the Bruce Highway north through Childers and Miriam Vale (about 6.5 hours). The final leg winds through bushland to Agnes Water and 1770 – the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Roads are sealed and suited for a relaxed coastal drive. Pause in Childers or Miriam Vale for refreshments before the final stretch.

Accommodation ranges from beachside resorts and holiday homes to motels and caravan parks, so there’s something for every travel style. Early booking is recommended during the festival period.

Day 1 – Arrival and festival kick-off

Check in and relax on Agnes Water Beach – Queensland’s most northerly surf break. Later, head to the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival grounds to soak in the opening-night energy.

The first evening often opens with a variety of blues, rock, roots and acoustic sets in a warm, communal ambience. Browse artisan stalls, enjoy local food trucks, and mingle with festivalgoers under the lights.

Cap the night with an after‑party walk along the 1770 foreshore and dinner at Barraca By The Sea.

Day 2 – Workshops, street eats and main stage

Begin your morning with a workshop – from drumming, didgeridoo, guitar and songwriting to jams with some of your favourite performers, these sessions let you connect more deeply with the music and local artists.

Move between festival stages in the afternoon, explore the craft markets, sample local flavours, and soak up the casual, creative festival atmosphere.

At night, the Marquee stage takes over – expect major acts like Dragon among the headliners, with lively, unforgettable performances under the stars.

Day 3 – Surf, heritage and festival finale

Start with a Gnarly Tours Surf lesson or beach stroll.

Visit the Agnes Water Museum to delve into local maritime and pioneer stories. Return to the festival for its grand finale – a relaxed, celebratory close with performances, crowd favourites, and community vibes.

After dusk, unwind with a sunset experience – either join 1770 Liquid Adventures for a tranquil Sunset Kayak Tour, paddling in twilight serenity, or set sail with 1770 Sunset Cruises to watch the sun melt into the horizon from the water.

Day 4 – Reef or LARC! adventure

After three days of music, trade stage lights for starlit water. Cruise with 1770 Reef to Lady Musgrave Island – snorkel among coral, spot turtles, and enjoy guided nature walks.

Alternatively, take the Paradise Tour with 1770 LARC! Tours into Eurimbula National Park and up to the lighthouse – an amphibious adventure across sandbars and hidden beaches.

Day 5 – Trails, lookouts and farewell

Start your day with the Butterfly Walk, beginning at the Captain Cook Memorial and winding your way up to the 1770 Headland for breathtaking views.

Enjoy brunch at La Caravana, set in a lush garden oasis, or at Holiday’s Cafe, where you can soak up stunning ocean views – the perfect way to wrap up a music-filled, reef-kissed weekend.
