Challenging tropical 4WD track back in business
A famous Tropical North Queensland four-wheel drive track has reopened after being significantly damaged by Cyclone Jasper.
Extreme flooding that followed Cyclone Jasper last December saw the CREB Track closed until 9 September.
The CREB Track was originally an access track for the former Cairns Regional Electricity Board (CREB). It starts just north of Daintree Village and ends 71km later at the Indigenous community of Wujal Wujal.
Douglas Shire Council Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the rack had to undergo significant repairs to get it back to being usable.

“The southern river crossing of the trail has been reinstated while numerous small landslips and fallen trees have been cleared off the track,” Cr Scomazzon said.
“I am sure there are many four-wheel-drive enthusiasts who can’t wait to test their skills on the track’s rugged terrain and river crossings once more.”
The Douglas Shire Council website reminds drivers to consider weather conditions as it only takes a light shower, and the track can become impassable.
The council advises users to pack recovery gear, travel in a convoy, and always carry food and water if they need to camp overnight on the track, which is not uncommon.
The track is recommended for experienced 4WD enthusiasts, with 15–20km/h speeds advised.
It includes steep descents and ascents, narrow sections and several creek and river crossings.
You can find more information on the track by visiting the Douglas Shire Council website.
