MotorFest 2024: A festival of classic cars and trailblazing tech
From RACQ’s oldest car to the latest in electric vehicle (EV) technology, RACQ MotorFest 2024 had it all on Sunday, June 16, at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
This year, attendees not only had the opportunity to test drive EVs, e-scooters, and e-bikes in the Future Zone, they also marvelled at more than 70 Ford Mustangs as the iconic model marked its 60th anniversary.
Chief Executive Assistance Glenn Toms said RACQ’s red Rambler Model G Roadster was another key display – the Club’s oldest fleet vehicle celebrating its 120th birthday.
“Built in 1904, the Rambler was first purchased by RACQ Founding member Dr Charles Marks in 1905 and was the first motor vehicle to climb the city’s steep Edward Street hill,” Mr Toms said.
This year more than 500 vehicles from all across the world were on display, with judges awarding winners across 10 categories including American, European, Veteran, and Electric.
“There was everything from a magnificently maintained Australian orange 1952 FX Holden Ute to a sleek 2019 Corvette C7 Z06,” Mr Toms said.
“Experiencing MotorFest 2024 was like travelling back and forth in a transport time machine.”
Mr Toms said even if you weren’t into motoring, there was plenty of fun for the whole family.
“This year we brought back our popular ‘Best Dressed’ competition, we had rides and activities for the kids included with entry, live music, food stalls, and of course our signature vehicle cavalcade to end such a wonderful day,” he said.
“Entry into the Club’s biggest event was just $2 and children under three were free, so it really was an awesome day out that didn’t break the bank.”
Around 10,000 people attended Motorfest 2024 with proceeds from all ticket and showbag sales contributing to the RACQ Foundation to help Queensland communities rebuild stronger following natural disasters.
