Full Submission

In this submission RACQ urges all levels of Government to work together with communities to create a more resilient state by:

  • Developing and implementing disaster resilience plans in the high-risk communities,
  • Investing in public infrastructure that reduces risk of flood and other natural perils,
  • Investing in programs that encourage and incentivise disaster mitigation features in private dwellings,
  • Improving land use planning to prevent the mistakes of the past,
  • Put new communities in safer locations or design them in a manner more appropriate to the natural peril risks in the local area,
  • Improving standards for designing and building homes that increase disaster resilience,
  • Using our natural environment such as waterways and landscapes in a smarter, more sustainable way to better manage higher volumes of rainfall.
