Japanese commercial vehicle specialist Isuzu has announced changes to the MY23 versions of its popular MU-X large SUV, which will be available from the start of December.

Pricing for the updated MY23 MU-X range remains unchanged, with the entry level 3.0 LS-M 4x2 starting from $48,900 (MRLP), rising through six variants to the range-topping 3.0-litre LST 4x4 which costs $65,990 driveaway.

The versatile family-focused seven-seater comes in three model grades – LS-M, LS-U and LS-T – with each offering the choice of 4x2 or selectable dual-range 4x4 drivetrains and 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity.

New features of the entry-level MU-X LS-M include attractive six-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, a two-tone black grille, LED rear combination lights and a new function that automatically disables the vehicle’s blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert driver aids when a trailer is hitched and detected via a genuine trailer wiring harness plug.

The MU-X LS-M 4x2 costs $49,900 (MRLP) and the 4x4 costs $54,900 (MRLP).

The mid-spec MU-X LS-U gets a new black chrome grille finish, LED rear combination lights, new interior and exterior accents, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hands-free tailgate and the same BSM and RCTA auto-off when towing feature as the LS-M.

The MU-X LS-U 4x2 costs $55,400 (MRLP) and the 4x4 costs $61,400 (MRLP).

The flagship MU-X LS-T gets the same Magnetite and black chrome accents as the LS-U but adds new 20-inch six-spoke machined alloy wheels, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hands-free tailgate and the BSM and RCTA auto-off towing feature.

The MU-X LS-T 4x2 costs $61,400 (MRLP) and the 4x4 costs $67,400 (MRLP), or $65,990 with Isuzu’s current driveaway deal.

Powered by a gutsy 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel, driving through a six-speed automatic, this second-generation MU-X has proven a hit with families, caravanners and off-road adventurers and is the third best-selling model in the sub-$70k category, behind the Toyota Prado and Kluger, with sales to the end of September of 7911 units.
