Chinese car maker Haval has been one of the fastest rising brands on the Australian new car market in recent years and has added to its stocks with the release of its stylish new H6 GT.

The Haval H6 GT brings some distinctive flair to the existing H6 range which has established itself as a keenly priced and generously equipped model representing strong value in the highly competitive medium SUV segment.

Featuring a more rakish coupe-like roof profile, restyled grille, gloss-black alloy wheels and both a rear roof and tailgate spoiler, the H6 HT comes in two trim levels, the H6 GT Lux 2WD costing $40,990 driveaway and the H6 GT Ultra 4WD costing $46,490 driveaway.

Both models are based on the same global modular platform that underpins the regular Haval H6 and Jolion SUVs, and both are powered by the brand’s familiar 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 150kW/320Nm and driving through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

An active exhaust booster provides the H6 GT with a sportier engine note to better suit its sporty exterior lines, with the entry-level Haval H6 GT Lux driving its front wheels only but boasting a comprehensive list of standard equipment that makes its $40,900 driveaway price look like exceptional value.

It includes Comfort-Tek eco-leather seats, 10.25-inch colour LED instrument cluster and multimedia touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, eight-speaker DTS audio, electric tailgate, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a 360-degree camera.

Both variants boast a comprehensive suite of standard safety features, helping deliver a recently minted five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Listed among the safety kit is seven airbags including a centre airbag, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian, bicycle and crossroad detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and emergency lane keep. There’s also traffic sign recognition, lane change assist with blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, intelligent cruise assist, traffic jam assist, hill descent control, hill start assist control and driver drowsiness detection.

Over and above this the $46,490 driveaway H6 GT Ultra adds a 4WD drivetrain, Michelin Sport tyres, heated and cooled electrically adjustable Comfort-Tek eco-leather front seats, heated leather steering wheel, 12.3-inch colour multimedia touchscreen, heads up display, wireless phone charging, electric tailgate with hands-free opening, panoramic sunroof, rear cross-traffic alert with braking and fully automatic parking.

A generous seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty, plus five years’ roadside assistance and five years’ capped price servicing add further appeal to the H6 GT, which goes up against category heavyweights including the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5.
