The Federal Government’s Department of Transport has issued an urgent recall notice for 8,572 MQ4 Kia Sorento SUVs made between 2020–22.

The department said due to variations in production, a crack may develop in the printed circuit board (PCB) of the transmission electric oil pump (EOP) which may lead to failure of the EOP in the affected Sorentos.

If the EOP fails, hydraulic pressure will be lost and the vehicle may lose drive thereby increasing the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” the department said.

Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact their Kia dealer to have the transmission software updated.

Visit the department website to check the list of affected cars’ vehicle identification numbers (VIN).
