Funding boost for second-hand electric car importer
A $10 million investment aims to boost supply and affordability of second-hand electric vehicles (EVs) into Australia.
More used electric cars will soon be on their way to Australia thanks to a $10 million investment in Australia’s largest importer of second-hand electric vehicles (EVs), The Good Car Company.
A statement from the company said the investment by the philanthropic venture Boundless addressed two of the biggest barriers to EV adoption in Australia – supply and affordability – and would boost the number of second-hand EVs it imports tenfold per annum, from about 200 to 2,000 vehicles.
Founded in Tasmania, The Good Car Company imports pre-owned and new EVs from the UK and Japan, ranging from small cars to light commercials and with prices starting from $20,000.
Imported second-hand EV models include the Nissan Leaf, Nissan eNV200 electric van and Peugeot e-expert electric van.
The company also has new EVs available for fleet purchase such as the Polestar 2, and Hyundai Kona.
The Good Car Company says all its imported EVs are offered with full consumer protection such as battery warranty, recall notifications servicing and roadside assist.

Co-founder and Director at The Good Car Company Anthony Broese van Groenou said the boosted capacity afforded by the Boundless investment will have a transformative impact on Australian communities.
“We delivered Australia’s first community EV bulk buy in 2019 and every year we witness more and more people wanting to transition to EVs and the opportunities they unlock,” Mr Broese van Groenou said.
“Australia is comparatively underserved by availability and affordability of EVs and we’re excited that our community model has been recognised as a great way to change that.”
CEO of Boundless Eyton Lenko said his organisation’s investments, initiatives and partnerships were focused on ensuring Australia became a renewable energy superpower by 2030.
“With transport accounting for 18% of Australia’s emissions, we knew our first priority had to be bridging the growing gap between demand for EVs among Australians and the supply available within an attainable price point,” Mr Lenko said.
“The Good Car Company is a perfect fit and we’ve been impressed by their continued advocacy towards investment in the EV industry as a whole.”
More Australians are purchasing EVs with the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) new vehicle sales figures for September 2022 showing a total of 7,247 EVs were sold during the month.
Year-to-date sales figures of 21,771 EVs represents a small but growing 2.7% overall market share.
The Good Car Company said the additional EV models would be available in Australia for purchase off its website from early 2023.
Vehicles will also be available through a series of community based “bulk-buy” campaigns around the country.
