New ‘tiny house’ accommodation is available at sites across Queensland, from North Burnett and Bundaberg to Cairns and the Whitsunday hinterland.

These self-sufficient ‘compact homes on wheels’ are made with sustainable materials and include waterless compost toilets, rainwater collections tanks for showers, and solar panels.

Tiny Away co-founder Jeff Yeo said the getaways were all about leaving the worries of the daily grind behind and connecting with the natural surrounds.

“A Tiny Away stay gives people a chance to experience the tiny house lifestyle and the philosophy of ‘less is more’,” Mr Yeo said.

Founded in 2018, the Tiny Away network includes a range of comfortable eco-friendly ‘tiny houses’ for travellers seeking alternative and unique accommodation experiences.

Using a profit-sharing arrangement that sees landowners earning up to 45% of rental revenue, Tiny Away considers itself a partner with landowner hosts.

A step up from glamping, each tiny house offers hot showers, air-conditioning, a queen bed, and a kitchenette.

The tiny houses are typically positioned on a working farm, often totally off-grid, and hosts offer unique activities that give guests a taste of rural life.

Golden Hill Farmstay, Rosedale (Bundaberg region)

Golden Hill Farmstay is the perfect farm stay nestled on 168 acres of green pastures, dense woodlands, native wildlife, and farm animals including free-range chickens, pigs, and goats. Experience the unhurried backcountry lifestyle, unwind, and reconnect with nature.

Halfway between Gladstone and Bundaberg, the tiny house is close to the coast, nearby seaside town of Seventeen-Seventy and its stunning beaches and fishing, and Agnes Waters’ secluded beaches and tranquil inlets.

Rainforest Sunsets, Kuranda (Cairns Region)

The perfect tiny house for those looking for a secluded and quiet retreat near Cairns. Lap up spectacular sunsets overlooking lush rolling hills and unwind while you take in the breathtaking views.

At an altitude of about 330m, Kuranda’s cool mountain climate makes for an ideal escape from the heat of the coast. And what’s more, there’s plenty to be explored in Kuranda. The town became popular with the hippie crowd in the 1960s and ’70s, and they have left an artistic and musical legacy that can still be enjoyed today.

Blackiron Tiny House (Whitsunday hinterland)

Blackiron Tiny House sits in the rural locality of Queensland's Whitsunday Region. An ideal natural hideaway with wide-open spaces, natural wildlife displays, and a short walk to the Andromache River - perfect for fishing, swimming, and picnics.

This tiny house stay gives you the opportunity to explore all that the local area has to offer, as well as being only a short drive to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and nearby towns such as Bowen, and Collinsville.

Nomad Nation (North Burnett Area)

Nomad Nation sits in Mount Perry, a small town in the North Burnett Area. Explore the area’s stunning bushwalking trails, creeks, and other natural attractions – including Mount Walsh National Park, a beautiful natural area in Biggenden with steep forested slopes, sheltered gullies, and mountains.

For history buffs, Mount Perry Bicentennial Museum has a collection of folk memorabilia, including one of only three working pole stampers in Queensland. What's more, the tiny house is only one hour to Bundaberg, Woodgate, and Hervey Bay.
