Nine great Capricorn Coast beaches to enjoy

Visitors to the Yeppoon region have plenty of choices when planning a day at the beach.

Yeppoon boasts several great beaches in the region.

The Capricorn Coast in central Queensland boasts many breathtaking tranquil beaches offering good swimming and fishing opportunities.

Below is a selection to check out on your next visit to the region.

Main Beach Yeppoon

Main Beach Yeppoon is 1.3km of swimming beach suitable for all ages and abilities. The beach has excellent access ramps, toilets, electric barbecues and picnic facilities. It is also the focal point for many coastal events like Tropical Pinefest and the annual Australia Day celebrations. Dogs are not allowed.

Farnborough Beach

Farnborough Beach is just north of Yeppoon is part of The Big Dune Surfing Reserve. The 17km beach offers a good beach break and vehicle access. Dogs are allowed off-leash from Bangalee boat ramp south to Barwells Creek, with access via Hinz Avenue.

Lammermoor Beach

Lammermoor Beach is 2.5km long and backed by casuarina-covered foredunes, with a small tidal creek at the southern end. Swimming is best at high tide. A picnic area with toilets is provided at the northern end of the beach.

Kemp Beach

Kemp Beach is a wide sandy beach with a rocky outcrop called The Bluff, which has excellent walking tracks and lookouts where you can often spot turtles and dolphins in the waters below. Kemp Beach has barbecues, picnic tables and toilets. Dogs are permitted at designated times.

Mulambin Beach

Mulambin Beach is 2km long and cradled between Bluff Point at the northern end and Pinnacle Point to the south, both of which are part of the Capricorn Coast National Park. There is vehicle access at the northern end for launching boats off the beach at high tide. Picnic tables and toilets are available.

Kinka Beach

Kinka Beach is situated on the banks of Kinka Creek and the Causeway Lake. Kinka Beach is 3km long and faces east north east. The beach usually has low waves and swimming is best on a mid to high tide.

Emu Park Main Beach

Emu Park Main Beach is a quiet beach with calm waters. The beach has shady picnic facilities, playground and is close to shops. Dogs are not allowed.

Fishermans Beach

Fishermans Beach, Emu Park,is 2km long and is the focus of boat fishing. However, there are plenty of rocks and rock platforms to fish from a high tide. There is also a sealed boat ramp and fishing wharf.

Keppel Sands Main Beach

Keppel Sands Main Beach is 1.3km long and faces east. The beach is backed by the small Keppel Sands settlement. Swimming and fishing is best at high tide. Picnic facilities are available.

Dogs off-leash

If you are travelling with your four-legged friend, the Capricorn Coast is a great place to visit. Unless signposted to say otherwise, dogs are permitted off-leash on all beaches before 8am and after 4pm (all other times dogs must be on a leash).

Daytime off-leash beaches are Farnborough Beach, Yeppoon (from Bangalee boat ramp south to Barwells Creek with access via Hinz Avenue) and Emu Park Main Beach (from the beach access 150m north of Bell Park to Tanby Point with access via Hill Street). This excludes public holidays and weekends.

Dogs are not permitted on any beach adjacent to Byfield National Park.
