Treat yourself at these rural Queensland pubs
Often the heart and soul of any country town, Queensland’s rural pubs are well worth a visit.
Whether it’s quenching your thirst after a hard day’s work or indulging in a hearty pub meal on the weekend, Queenslanders swear by our local pubs.
Below are some of the best to enjoy a steak or a parmi in south east Queensland.
The Imperial Pub, Eumundi
Located a stone’s throw away from Noosa, The Imperial Pub was founded in 1911 and has more recently become home to local favourite, Eumundi Brewery. Pouring their own lager and pale ale as well as a food menu full of pub classics, The Imperial Pub houses a happening beer garden as well as – in true Queensland style- a dining area with sweeping verandas. In another bonus for this pub, if you plan your visit on a weekend, you can also sip your schooner with the backdrop of a live acoustic set from a local band.
Queen's Arms Pub, Roma
Known by locals as Roma’s premier food and entertainment hotspot, the Queens Arms Pub really has been, the heart of this rural town since its establishment in 1917. With the original hotel accommodation still taking bookings, you can even opt for a night away and appreciate this pub for all its outback appeal. Aside from devouring a juicy steak, this entertainment hub operates well into the night with a variety of shows scheduled on different nights throughout the week.
Rudd’s Pub, Nobby
The Rudd’s Pub in Nobby may well be known for winning the Queensland Hotels Association award for Queensland’s Best Themed Pub in 2015, but this historic venue also serves up wholesome pub food and, of course, cold beer. Named after author Steele Rudd and built in 1893, Rudd’s Pub is nestled in the small rural town of Nobby, about 35km outside Toowoomba and a two-hour drive from Brisbane. With a large Queensland memorabilia and photograph collection adorning the walls, you will be forgiven for spending your visit taking it all in.
The Woombye Pub, Woombye
The buzzing centre of the small town of Woombye since 1900, the Woombye Pub is a seven-day operation to help you get your pub fix whatever day you visit. With a central bar as well as its own bottle shop, this regional Sunshine Coast pub boasts an established food and drink menu. Another great asset of this pub worth mentioning is that it offers a free courtesy shuttle on Friday and Saturday nights to certain locations within the Sunshine Coast for those opting to for a weekend-long adventure.
The Spotted Cow, Toowoomba
Located in the city centre of Toowoomba, The Spotted Cow has had its fair share of south east Queenslanders conquer the Great Dividing Range to try out the extensive food and drink menu on offer over the years. Serving up local produce and pouring more than 70 different beers, this pub, like most rural towns, is the heart and soul of Toowoomba and has recently undergone a refurbishment to help restore its rustic charm. With a motto of ‘Good times with good friends’, this local is well worth a daytrip with friends, even if it is only to share a kilo of their Spring Bay mussels.
Don’t drink and drive
If you do plan to enjoy an alcoholic drink at these or any other licensed venues, don’t risk being over the limit and leave the driving to someone else.
