Rockhampton is looking to grow its reputation as a mountain biking hot spot with a new campaign promoting what the region offers riders.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said Rockhampton was quickly becoming a popular mountain biking destination.

“Rockhampton is fortunate to be surrounded by the Berserker and Dee ranges, providing us with fantastic nature-based experiences for locals and visitors to enjoy, including access to two premier mountain bike parks,” Cr Williams said.

“With over 50km of trails across the First Turkey and Mount Morgan trail networks, 300 days of sunshine and a sub-tropical climate, Rockhampton is a destination of choice for mountain bike riders of all skill levels.

“Now is the perfect time for locals to invite their friends and relatives to Rockhampton to experience the trails and all of the other great attractions, experiences and events our region has on offer”.

Tourism opportunity

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Greg Bowden said mountain biking represented a great opportunity to increasing visitation to the Rockhampton region.

“According to AusCycling, mountain biking tourism is considered one of the fastest growing recreational activities, contributing $136.9 million to the Australian economy, per annum,” Mr Bowden said.

“With many southern states closing their trails during the colder months, there is a fantastic opportunity to put Rockhampton on the radar and attract these riders to Rocky over winter.

“And with an increase in flight routes and carriers into our region, travelling to Rockhampton with your mountain bike has never been easier.

“The ‘Ride Rocky. It’s Rad’ campaign will run for approximately three months and includes collaboration with ‘Flow Mountain Bike’, a multi-media publication with a reach of over 2.4 million nationally, who educate and inspire Australians by offering them the best information on mountain biking destinations.

“Our Advance Rockhampton team have created another great toolkit for local operators to download from the Advance Rockhampton website so they have everything they need to leverage this campaign over the coming months, from hero images, videos, social reels and campaign messaging.”

The Advance Rockhampton ‘Ride Rocky. It’s Rad’ campaign is running from April to June, with the targeted travel period being July through to September.
