Boobook Explore’s new Landscape and Legacy in Roma day tour gives a whole new perspective on the region.

This small group adventure takes guests to Mt Abundance, in the traditional lands of the Mandandanji people, where explorer Thomas Mitchell famously remarked on the native grasslands, which now bear his name.

It is also where explorer Ludwig Leichhardt penned his last letter before his mysterious disappearance.

Boobook’s eco guides will help guests appreciate the natural biodiversity, including iconic bottle trees growing in their natural habitat.

The tour includes stops at Massey Downs homestead to the famous Roma Saleyards, which each have their own stories to tell.

Boobook Explore joint founder Meryl Eddie said this new tour was something different for groups travelling to Roma or through Roma.

It can also be combined with Boobook Explore’s highly acclaimed Lost World Carnarvons (Wallaroo) day adventure to create a short-break holiday.

“For travellers heading west on an outback holiday, Roma makes an ideal stopover and offers unique experiences, as well as being the gateway to the Carnarvons,” Ms Eddie said.

“It is also fantastic for a short winter break – drivable from South Eeast Queensland or groups can fly into Roma airport.”

Also new from Boobook Explore is a Guided Nature Tour in Roma – an hour with an eco guide that reveals the natural diversity of reforested bushland at the Roma Bush Gardens.

The Landscape and Legacy in Roma tour runs on Tuesdays until October. It can be combined with Lost World Carnarvons on selected Mondays and Wednesdays and with the Guided Nature Trail on Mondays to create a longer exploration of the region.

Boobook Explore is a Roma-based, family company founded, owned and operated by ecologists and pastoralists Craig and Meryl Eddie.

Its mission is to awaken a sense of wonder and ecological understanding through small-group experiences to little-visited destinations in the Roma and Carnarvons region.
