Brisbane Festival – the beloved arts and culture festival that takes over the city – is returning from 31 August to 21 September with more than 1,000 performances programmed.

LIMBO – The Return

The award-winning LIMBO, which for over a decade has wowed audiences from Brussels to Bogota, is back in Brisbane, reimagined and more jaw-dropping than ever before. An intoxicating mix of cabaret, circus, acrobatics and ecstatic, heart-pounding live music, enthralling stage effects, and more, LIMBO — The Return is set to seduce audiences all over again.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show

Jean Paul Gaultier is set to shake up Australian audiences when his stunning creation, Fashion Freak Show — 50 years of pop culture through the eyes of fashion’s enfant terrible — takes up residence in Brisbane as a sensational centrepiece of this year’s Festival. An explosive combination of both a musical revue and fashion show, the production depicts the sensational life of Jean Paul Gaultier against a backdrop of his generation’s most defining political and cultural changes.

The Art Boat

Step aboard and immerse yourself in an unforgettable voyage through the heart of Brisbane. Against the stunning backdrop of the ever-expanding city skyline, journey along the iconic waterways, of the Brisbane River. The Art Boat, reimagined, is chartered and curated by the world-class local legends BRIEFS FACTORY. On selected Saturdays and Sundays, step aboard for a balmy afternoon cruise and dive into family fun holiday entertainment, where queer punk circus delights kids and adults alike.

Meet Your Maker 2024 Brisbane Festival

Meet Your Maker

A high-octane, pop-fuelled debut premiere from Alethea Beetson (Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi and Wiradjuri). Set in the fictional universe of Queen’s City, Meet Your Maker, re-imagines a world where Indigenous communities were given their land back. In another time, we get to see what might happen if we had gone down a different path if Indigenous pop culture was the norm and not the token.

Volcano

The multi-award-winning Volcano invites audiences into a voyeuristic journey played out across four performances full of surprise and intrigue. A serialised live performance miniseries spanning four 45-minute episodes, Volcano crosses the boundaries of experimental theatre, contemporary dance and psychological sci-fi thriller. Existing in a liminal space, a living room in disrepair, a room without a door, two characters recreate the greatest hits of old lives: a night at a rave, a favourite game show, an 80’s music-video, passing the time or quietly clinging to distant memories of a life out of reach.

Lightscape

This globally renowned, multisensory phenomenon of light, colour and sound showcases Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens in a new light, with breathtaking installations created by acclaimed local and international artists. This one-of-a-kind experience will immerse audience in an inspiring, after-dark journey along a 1.8km trail through the iconic City Botanic gardens.

Brisbane Serenades

Brisbane Festival’s smash-hit Serenades program is back for its fifth year. This year five incredible outdoor concerts will occur, taking place from the north and the south, amongst the city’s gorgeous green spaces, gardens, parks and rivers. It’s the perfect way to explore Brisbane and experience the joy of music, dance and connection.

Fancy Long Legs 2024 Brisbane Festival

Fancy Long Legs

A brand-new glittery musical adventure for children and families based on a new picture book by international tinsel and craft icon Rachel Burke. Fancy Long Legs is a groundbreaking, fully accessible work for young audiences and the young at heart.
