Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 XS (2011)

by Barry Green,reviewed August 2011

Best look under the bonnet for any major change to the 2011 Land Rover Freelander 2 rather than styling cues.
While the ‘rangie’ does benefit from a modest exterior and interior makeover, the story is about an efficient new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine offering improved torque (20 Nm more, now 420 Nm) and fuel economy (6.6 litres/100 km) and improved NVH.

We drove both the TD4 XS and higher-spec (hence dearer) SD4 HSE models and were impressed with both, but feel that the latter offers better bang-for-buck.

Around town, the Freelander proved quick off the mark and agile for a vehicle of its kind, and comfy and accommodating out on the open road. Off road, its legendary Land Rover DNA proved to be firmly ingrained.
