Sigenergy Inverter Recall – Important Safety Information

What's the issue?

Sigenergy and the ACCC have announced a national recall and replacement program.

Sigenergy has identified a safety concern with the AC plug used in certain SigenStor EC inverter models (8.0kW, 10.0kW, and 12.0kW single-phase units). Under certain conditions - such as prolonged full-load operation or when installation guidelines have not been followed precisely - the AC plug may overheat, which could cause thermal damage and pose a fire risk.

Specifically, Sigenergy has advised:

To reduce the chance of AC plug damage we are working with installers to proactively replace affected inverters with a new version that has an updated AC plug. There will be no charge to customers for this replacement.

Our priority is the customer. All single phase 8/10/12kW inverters that are online have already received a firmware update which allows us to monitor each system proactively. If our system detects sustained full power output of the inverter, it will temporarily reduce the AC output to prevent the AC plug from overheating and becoming damaged, in the event that it has not been correctly installed.

This should only affect a small number of installed 8/10/12kW single phase inverters and is a temporary precautionary measure in case they have not been installed as per our installation instructions. Once your inverter is replaced, this limit will be removed.

Systems that are not connected to the internet and have not received the firmware update will be replaced as a top priority. We have full details of disconnected systems for tracking purposes and are conducting daily checks to ensure the firmware update is applied, should these systems connect to the internet.

The firmware update was applied as soon as it was successfully developed to help prevent any potential damage to the product regardless of how it was installed.

Replacement Program

All affected inverters will be replaced free of charge with updated models featuring:

  • An improved AC plug design
  • An additional two years of warranty coverage

Customers who have systems that aren’t connected to the internet will be prioritised.

Customers will be contacted by their installer once Sigenergy has provided replacement units and an installation date can be confirmed.

How to check your inverter model

  • Look for the model name on the label attached to your inverter.
  • Affected models include SigenStor EC 8.0kW, 10.0kW, and 12.0kW single-phase units.
  • If you’re unsure, check your installation paperwork or contact your installer for confirmation.

What do solar system owners need to do?

  • Maintain WiFi connection to keep your system online. No action is otherwise required at this stage.
  • RACQ Solar will notify customers with affected systems when replacement stock is ready and will support members throughout this process.
  • All RACQ Solar installations are now being completed using inverters with the updated AC plug. If you have an upcoming installation, you can be confident you’ll receive the new inverter with the improved plug.
  • If you are proceeding with a different installer, please confirm that your installation uses the updated inverter model. The older model inverter is no longer allowed to be installed.
