Meet RACQ's Reconciliation Action Lead

Warami Mittigar, Budyari naa-jun-ya.
Nyaya giara Belle Artates. Nyaya Dharug dhiyin bayala.
Hello friends, good to see you. My name is Belle Artates. I am a proud Dharug Woman from the Boorooberongal Clan. My Country stretches from the Blue Mountains in the west of New South Wales to the seas in the east, from the Hawkesbury River in the north, to Appin in the south. I am a wife and a Wiyanga (mother) to a ten-year-old Durunanang (daughter). My Elders gifted me my traditional name of ‘Goomedah Tamira’ which translates to ‘hands guided by the spirits’. My connection to my mob and Ancestors is strengthened through paint and the stories I tell on canvas.
My passion is to help mob, as well as others, and take genuine steps to close the gap. This is why I feel so passionately about my role and the actions we can take to make a real difference, not only for my fellow staff at RACQ, but to the communities we assist.
I joined RACQ as the Reconciliation Action Lead at the end of March and hit the ground sprinting so to speak. My role is to work to ensure RACQ and their staff are prepared for success in their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) journey. I work closely with multiple areas of the business to lead the efficient and effective development of RACQ’s RAP, implement deliverables, and engage with new and existing RAP partners to broaden our impact. My role will lead internal projects within the organisation where they are directly relating to First Nations people and businesses.
My wish for RACQ is to continue to build a culturally safe space for all mob to feel valued and welcomed, where people are proud to show who they are and where they come from. I would say there have been no surprises when joining RACQ, as I felt drawn to this company due to their genuine action that they deliver within communities. I love being able to get out into the community and connect with the Elders to assist and make a genuine difference.
While not at work, I connect with my Ancestors through either painting or weaving and have created a fair number of artworks which are currently on display in schools and other corporate offices. My artwork is about self-healing and connecting with my Ancestors, as they hold the key to making me who I am today.
One quote that resonates with me is “I am my Ancestors hopes and dreams, my role is to do everything I can to be a good Ancestor for the next generation”.
Didyarigura (Thank you) and please remember to walk this world with good spirits with love in your hearts. It only takes a small number of muscles to smile at someone, however it could lift a dark cloud on someone else’s day.
