RACQ leaders honoured in awards

RACQ has congratulated its former Group CEO, Ian Gillespie, and current Board Deputy Chair Elizabeth Jameson on being awarded Members (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list on Monday.

Mr Gillespie AM, who led RACQ for 13 years before he retired in December 2019, was honoured for his significant service to motoring associations, to the co-operatives and mutual sector, and to motor sport.

RACQ Chairman Bronwyn Morris said she was delighted Mr Gillespie has been recognised for his hard work, commitment and dedication to ensuring RACQ’s approximately 1.8 million members and their community were supported by the Club.

“During his tenure, Ian not only undertook a huge transformation of our club, he also played a successful role in helping promote and enhance the mutual sector,” Ms Morris said.

“RACQ’s position as a bold advocate for its members, its growth into mobility from motoring, acquisition of the Mt Cotton Mobility Centre of Excellence, merger to create RACQ Bank and creation of the RACQ Foundation, where Ian remains on the board, are all part of the legacy Ian has left RACQ and Queensland.

“Ian also grew the relationship with our key partners such as the community rescue helicopter network and the RACQ road safety education team who help teach safety and resilience to more than 40,000 Queensland school children every year.”

Ms Morris said Elizabeth Jameson AM has been recognised for her significant service to business and the community.

“Elizabeth has a long and respected career as a lawyer and governance specialist, who has served more than 20 organisations in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors over the past 25 years,” Ms Morris said.

“Elizabeth has been a champion for education, both generally, and within the community of Australian Directors, through her governance and leadership expertise. It is wonderful for both Ian and Elizabeth to be recognised in this way, and our whole RACQ team is proud of them both.”
