Toowoomba one of Queensland’s car theft hot spots

2 May 2018 Toowoomba motorists have been warned to be vigilant about car security as new RACQ insurance data showed Harristown was one of Queensland’s top three suburbs for car thefts.

RACQ spokesperson Kirsty Clinton said almost 3,000 insurance claims were made in the past three years for cars stolen from Harristown.

“This is not a list you want to appear on and it’s clear locals need to be doing more to avoid falling victim to thieves,” Ms Clinton said.

Ms Clinton said motorists needed to make simple safety precautions a priority.

“Always lock your car and ensure all windows are up when you leave it unattended,” she said.

“Wherever possible, park in a secure garage or park somewhere well-lit and well-populated.

“Thieves are often opportunistic so don’t tempt them by leaving valuables visible in your vehicle.

“Importantly, treat your keys like cash. Keep them on you and don’t leave them in plain sight.”

Ms Clinton said Toyota Landcruisers were the most stolen model in the State, closely followed by the Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.
