RACQ crowns Australia’s Best Cars 2019

RACQ has put the country’s most popular vehicle makes and models under the microscope to crown Australia’s Best Cars for 2019.

Cars ranging from light cars to SUV were rigorously tested by RACQ, along with other motoring clubs across the country, for value for money, safety, design, function and on-road features.

RACQ Head of Technical and Safety Policy Steve Spalding said Toyota was the biggest surprise and after several years of missing the mark had made a comeback taking out the top spot in five categories – two of those being hybrid models.

“This marks an exciting shift in the world of motoring towards a cleaner and greener future, while still offering all the features we look for in a vehicle,” Mr Spalding.

“It’s also the first time we’ve seen the humble Toyota Corolla make the list. We’ve also welcomed the resurrection of the Supra which has regained the sports car status it was known for decades ago.”

Mr Spalding said this year’s categories were an interesting insight into the current car market in Australia, with SUVs replacing the traditional family sedan as most popular vehicle type.

“Aussie drivers love the flexibility and space of driving an SUV, whether that’s a small or large SUV,” he said.

Mr Spalding said the Australia’s Best Cars competition was the nation’s most independent and consumer-focused assessment of the country’s newest vehicles on the market.

“This list should be the go-to guide for anyone shopping for a new car in Australia. Not only are these winners rated the best for value for money, looks and functionality - all of these vehicles are 5-star rated for safety,” he said.

More information, including detailed reviews on all winning vehicles, could be found on RACQ’s website.
