Bruce Hwy entry ramp permanently shutdown

Motorists on the Sunshine Coast have been warned to the Sunshine Motorway’s eastbound access to the southbound Bruce Highway entry ramp has been closed permanently.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) said the closure was part of the Bruce Highway upgrade from Caloundra Road to the Sunshine Motorway, with the Sunshine Motorway interchange to also be completely reconfigured.

DTMR claimed the closure would help establish the construction site for the upgrade, and was required for safety reasons.

The upgrade would see the Bruce Highway widened to six lanes between Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Motorway. It would also separate local traffic from long-haul travellers, allowing the highway to function as a high-speed, high-volume corridor.

Southbound motorists who wanted to access the Bruce Highway could still do so using alternative routes including the Sippy Downs interchange.

The upgrade was expected to be completed by 2020.
