Motorcyclist dead after being catapulted into Brisbane river

Police were left searching the Brisbane river last night for the body of a motorcyclist thrown off a freeway on-ramp after colliding with the side barrier.

Initial investigations suggested around 10.20pm on Saturday night, a motorcycle heading along Ann Street in Brisbane CBD lost control around the bend to the on-ramp towards Coronation Drive.

A search was carried out by Water Police and other emergency services with the rider located near the Queen Street Ferry Terminal.

The 31 year old rider from the Gold Coast was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been urged to contact Police.
