How GC marathon road closures will impact you: RACQ

Ahead of this weekend’s Gold Coast marathon RACQ has reminded drivers to be aware of road closures and diversions in place for the event.

The 41st Gold Coast Marathon would run over two days from Saturday 6 July to Sunday 7 July and would see more than 30,000 competitors descend on the Glitter Strip.

RACQ spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said anyone traveling to the Gold Coast this weekend should allow plenty of time to get to their destination.

“With tens of thousands of runners competing over the two-day event, it would be unwise to expect traffic in the area to be normal,” Ms Ritchie said.

“All races start and finish at the Southport Broadwater Parklands and the course for Sunday’s marathon extends right down to include the Esplanade at Burleigh Heads, so it’s going to be a significant event for the coast.

“Police will be on hand to help coordinate traffic diversion, so pay attention and follow their instructions.

“If you’re headed to the area plan your trip, catch public transport and pack your patience. Check RACQ Road conditions for the latest traffic updates.”
