Gold Coast cycling event to close roads
Motorists on the Gold Coast have been warned of road closures in place for the Oceanway Ride cycling event at the weekend.
Hundreds of cyclists were expected to take part in the race on Saturday morning, through the streets from Point Danger to Eagle Heights.
RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie said while the event wasn’t expected to have a large impact on traffic, motorists travelling in the area needed to ensure they had planned their journey.
“Leave extra time if you need to get anywhere nearby as these road closures could lead to congestion on surrounding roads,” Ms Ritchie said.
“We’d also urge motorists to exercise caution and share the road with cyclists travelling to and from the Oceanway Ride event.”
Road Closures in place:
- The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise is closed between the Soul Building and Hanlan Street, Surfers Paradise until 1pm.
- The Spit between Muriel Henchman Park and Doug Jennings Park will be reduced to one lane for both directions of travel between 6am and 7.30am.
RACQ’s Road Conditions website offered drivers up-to-date traffic information.
