14 roads closed as Mackay prepares for more wet weather
RACQ has warned driver more road closures were likely in the Mackay region after more than 100mm of rain fell overnight and more heavy rain was predicted in coming days.
Club spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said the Bruce Highway 10km south of Koumala had been impacted by flashing flooding and at least 14 roads in the region were closed.
“The region has already seen a lot of rain over the past few days, and the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a potential cyclone so flash flooding will remain a risk for several days,” Ms Ritchie said.
“The best option is to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel, but if you do need to be on the road, look at RACQ Road Conditions before you set out to know which roads are open or closed.
“If you come across a flooded road, never attempt to drive, walk or ride through the flood waters.”
