Major road closures to impact drivers: RACQ

RACQ has urged drivers to plan ahead with two major roads near the Bruce Highway to be closed this week as part of a $812 million upgrade.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reported the upgrades would take place on Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Coast Motorway westbound entry ramp.

RACQ spokesperson Clare Hunter said motorists should be aware of delays and diversions at both worksites.

“Even if you’ve driven in this area many times, you should allow extra travel time and slow down, as you’ll need to follow a different route around the roadworks,” Ms Hunter said.

“Eastbound lanes of Caloundra Road will be closed from Tuesday night between 8pm to 5pm until Thursday night, along with the Sunshine Motorway westbound entry ramp at Sippy Downs.

“Keep a close eye out for heavy machinery and detour signs – and pay attention to traffic controllers.

“It’s a good idea head to RACQ Road Conditions before you set off where you’ll find the very latest information.”

Ms Hunter said the Caloundra Road interchange would be impacted until at least the middle of the year.

“This is a case of a little pain for a lot of gain. The upgrade to this busy corridor of the Bruce Highway is vital for road safety and will be a game changer for those living on the Sunshine Coast.”
