More than 170 roads closed across Qld

RACQ has warned motorists to listen to authorities and obey road closures, with more than 170 roads still closed across the State due to flooding.

By 9am Friday morning, areas near Yatala had received almost another 150mm overnight, after a week of heavy falls.

Club spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said there were a significant number of roads impacted across the Gold Coast region.

“Heslop Road at Gaven is closed to all traffic due to flooding, as is Tamborine Mountain Road in Tamborine,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Further north, the Albert River Bridge is closed in Luscombe and Stanmore Road in Yatala is affected by flash flooding.”

Ms Ritchie said dozens of roads were also closed further west near Toowoomba and Dalby.

“Two sections of the Warrego Highway at Kingsthorpe and Oakey are being impacted by long-term flooding, but the road is open with caution to traffic,” she said.

“Several local roads in Jondaryan, Oakey and at Helidon Spa are also closed.”

Ms Ritchie reminded motorists closures were in place to keep them safe.

“There have been reports of people driving through floodwaters in the south east which is incredibly risky behaviour,” she said.

“You don’t know how deep the water is and what could be lurking underneath.

“We say it so often but it’s a critical message, if it’s flooded, forget it.”
