Sign up for spellcheck: Milanda or Malanda?

Anyone heading towards Malanda on their next road trip would be forgiven if they drove right past it, after the latest road sign fail near the Far North Queensland town.

The gaffe unveiled by the Department for Transport and Main Roads was along the Tablelands town’s main street, at Millaa Millaa, pronouncing “Millaa Millaa-Milanda Road”.

The slip of a vowel could be forgiven, except for the fact the correct spelling for the town of Malanda was just inches below.

Cairns Post reported correct overlays were being hurried to the town by Tablelands Regional Council and these should be in place within the next couple of weeks.

This was not the first time Queensland has seen a road sign spelling mishap, with Coolangatta referred to as a State ‘boarder’ instead of border.
