Altercation with emu leaves man worse for wear
A collision between an emu and a motorcycle has left a central Queensland man with serious injuries.
The 21 year old man had driven to work along Marlborough Sarina Road on Tuesday afternoon when the bird ran out in front of his Harley Davidson motorbike.
The Mackay-based RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the scene and landed at a nearby cattle property with medical crew on board. The patient had a possible broken leg, cuts and abrasions and was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.
On-scene ambulance crews and helicopter medical staff were able to quickly prepare the man for transport in less than 40 minutes.
An RACQ CQ Rescue crewman said it was fortunate the man had worn a full-face helmet and leathers as it helped him avoid more serious injuries.
