The outback will sing this May with an eight-day program of opera concerts, performances and workshops.

Regional Queensland comes alive this May with an extensive program of concerts, performances and workshops as Opera Queensland presents the inaugural Festival of Outback Opera.

Presented by Opera Queensland in association with Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, the festival visits Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall and Windorah from 19-27 May.

Internationally acclaimed singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes will headline the festival’s two main concerts, Dark Sky Serenade (Winton) and Singing in the Night (Longreach). He will be joined by Eva Kong, Xenia Puskarz Thomas, Kang Wang and Jason Barry-Smith.

The eight-day festival also features opportunities to see the company’s 2021 touring production Are You Lonesome Tonight, many of them free.

Are You Lonesome Tonight is a celebration of storytelling told through country music and opera.
