Qantas Museum flies high with international award win

Outback attraction rewarded for great feedback from visitors.

The Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach has achieved international standing thanks to the positive feedback from its visitors.

The museum is a 2020 Traveller’s Choice award winner, putting it in the top 10% of attractions in the world.

The TripAdvisor reviews were assessed over a 12-month period and before any changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winners were recognised for consistently receiving great traveller feedback.

Qantas Founders Museum CEO Tony Martin welcomed the recognition from online travel company TripAdvisor.

“Our Museum is committed to telling the incredible history of Qantas in new and exciting ways that our guests will enjoy and remember,” Mr Martin said.

“We also would like to thank all our customers who have visited, reviewed and supported our museum not just in 2019 but since we opened our doors in 1996.”

The Chief Commercial Officer at Tripadvisor, Kanika Soni, said despite the difficulties experienced this year by the travel and hospitality industries, it was important to recognise the award winners.

“Winners of the 2020 Travellers’ Choice Awards should be proud of this distinguished recognition,” said USA-based Ms Soni.

“Although it’s been a challenging year for travel and hospitality, we want to celebrate our partners' achievements.

“Award winners are beloved for their exceptional service and quality. Not only are these winners well deserving, they are also a great source of inspiration for traveller as the world begins to venture out again.”

The museum’s operations have been disrupted by COVID-19 this year, with some celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Qantas cancelled when it went into shutdown.

Qantas was established in Winton on 16 November 1920. The airline started flying the following year, moving its headquarters to Longreach.

Since re-opening, the museum has opened its new covered Airpark display and introduced the Luminescent Longreach attraction.

On 16 November, a special Qantas birthday celebration will be held at the museum which will include free entry to the museum.
