Queensland's top performing suburbs revealed

Did your suburb make the list?

New research from the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) found 68 suburbs across Queensland delivered double digit growth over the past 12 months.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said despite many predicting a downturn in the property market, Queensland has bucked the trend with many markets outperforming expectations.

“A total of 68 suburbs throughout Queensland have delivered double-digit growth over 12 months, which is a really strong result,” she said.

“And there are many more suburbs delivering strong single-digit growth – it’s a great market to be in at the moment.”

Ms Mercorella said while the south-east corner dominated the list, there were several suburbs throughout central and northern Queensland which also showed solid growth.

“The top area delivering the strongest growth has been Blackwater, with 151% growth,” she said.

“This is a result of the resurgence in coal prices and the low base starting point.”

There were 11 suburbs across Queensland which recorded an annual price growth of more than 20% including Blackwater, Spring Mountain (Ipswich), Collinsville, Minyama (Sunshine Coast), Hamilton, Hollywell (Gold Coast), Miles, Mount Coolum, Dundowran Beach (Fraser Coast), Boonah (Scenic Rim) and Idalia (Townsville).

“This spread of suburbs is a good indication that Queensland real estate is delivering steady sustainable growth across the board and outside of just the south-east corner,” Ms Mercorella said.

Regional Queensland also had 27 suburbs delivering double digit capital growth in house price over the past 12 months.

Townsville proved the most successful in regional Queensland with four suburbs reaching double digit growth followed by Cairns and Gympie which had three.
