Taste a slice of Sicily at Casa Nostra Ristorante

Take a trip to Italy with a feast of authentic Italian food at Casa Nostra Ristorante in the heart of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

RACQ sat down with Casa Nostra Chef and Owner Biagio Biuso (ex-Biagio Red Hill and Marina Paradiso, Cairns) about his restaurant.

Does your menu draw from a particular part of Italy?

Our food is drawn from all of Italy, but in particular, regional Sicily. I come from Bronte, which is a town at the base of Mount Etna in Sicily. It features true Mediterranean inspired cuisine, including seafood and fish, as well as pasta and meat dishes. Our pasta and gnocchi is all handmade from semolina and is fast becoming the talk of the town for its freshness and lightness.

What are the most popular meals on the menu?

The most popular meals are based around our fresh handmade pasta. Guests particularly love the Linguine Frutti Di Mare with mixed fresh local seafood and Gnocchi al Pistacchio e Prosciutto, which uses the ingredient for which my hometown is famous. Bronte in Sicily is known as ‘The Green Gold’ for producing the best pistachio nuts in the world!

Is there a standout dessert?

Handmade on the premises daily, all the desserts are extremely popular but especially the Sicilian Semifreddo alle Mandorle and Mini Cannoli.
For something really decadent, try the Sicilian Pistacchio cake, made from a secret family recipe passed on only to me.

Do you cater for vegetarians, gluten free and vegan?

Our menu caters very easily to gluten free as most dishes are gluten free due to the style of Sicilian cuisine that we serve. We also cater to vegetarian and vegans.

Is your outdoor seating dog friendly?

We love dogs and many of our regular customers enjoy bringing in their best friends with them while they enjoy a meal on our covered alfresco terrace.

Do you offer a degustation?

We have several different degustation and banquet style menus. The six-course pasta degustation takes you through our divine pasta dishes from entree all the way until dessert. Yes, the dessert is made from pasta and is a sweet sensation.

What do you recommend for large group dining?

Our Rustic Feast or Seafood Lover’s Banquet are popular but so are the individually designed set course menus.

Parking can be tricky in the Valley, but you have that sorted for customers?

Accessibility is extremely important for our customers and we believe we have the best free parking in Fortitude Valley. We offer three and a half hours free parking in the Secure carpark underneath our building. Guests simply bring their ticket in for validation. It is also wheelchair accessible.
