The Coaching Lane: The Learner Driver Launchpad Program

The person in the passenger seat can make all the difference.

RACQ’s The Coaching Lane: The Learner Driver Launchpad helps parents, carers, supervisors and mentors develop practical coaching skills to support young people throughout their learning journey. During supervised driving, young people develop habits, attitudes and decision-making skills that can influence their safety long after they gain a licence. Through practical, real-world tools and evidence-informed road safety education, the program helps adults guide young drivers towards safer, more independent driving.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Build young driver’s judgement, self-regulation and decision-making skills.
  • Use practical strategies such as commentary driving and structured lesson planning.
  • Recognise common risks and coach learners towards safer choices.
  • Gradually shift responsibility as learners become more capable.
  • Encourage open and effective conversations about road safety.
