Club Spokesperson Tristan Vorias said Greater Brisbane has only just entered the hiking phase of its fuel price cycle, with plenty of cheaper fuel still around.

“At 11am Thursday 25% of fuel stations across Brisbane have hiked their price for regular unleaded (ULP) with most of those jumping to 209.9 cents per litre (cpl),” Mr Vorias said.

“Just because the hike has started doesn’t mean motorists should be paying top dollar, with the majority of servos still charging 182cpl or less for ULP, but we don’t expect this to last long.

“Before you set off for your Easter holiday, spend a few extra minutes using apps like RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder to find the cheaper sites near you or along your route.”

Mr Vorias said Gold Coast locals should also fill up before the Easter Bunny arrives with the average price for ULP increasing by around 6cpl to 183cpl over the past week.

Motorists on the Sunshine Coast however should be able to savour cheaper fuel with their chocolate this weekend, with their price cycle lagging behind the rest of south east Queensland.

“We’re starting to see the early indications of a price hike on the Sunshine Coast with a handful of services stations increasing their price for ULP to over $2 per litre,” Mr Vorias said.

“If you’re on the Sunshine Coast make sure you fill the tank with cheaper fuel this weekend before more services stations join the hike next week.”

Following last week’s announcement by OPEC to reduce global oil production by another 1.16 million barrels, RACQ also expects baseline retail prices for fuel to climb by around 5cpl.

“We’re already seeing the price of global oil increase following OPEC’s decision to slash production and we expect this to flow through to the bowser here in Queensland over the coming weeks,” Mr Vorias said.

Diesel prices have been trending down over recent months and have remained stable over the past week. The average price is 196cpl for Greater Brisbane and Sunshine Coast and 198cpl on the Gold Coast.
