In its submission, the State’s peak motoring group outlined potential issues with the draft QECM’s proposed new rules that would require EQ to have a high level of control over power supply to home EV chargers.

RACQ’s Head of Public Policy Dr Michael Kane said giving EQ control over domestic EV wall chargers will add cost and complexity which will likely hinder the transition to more sustainable transport.

“The presumption that the electricity network needs to have high levels of control is inconsistent with national and global industry practice and research from multiple Australian trials,” Dr Kane said.

“We believe that these proposed changes deny consumers choice and will impact the uptake of smarter and more sustainable EV charging at home, putting Queensland at odds with the rest of Australia and the world.”

Establishing a working group will ensure the QECM promotes electric vehicle uptake, reduced emissions and a more efficient electricity grid.
