Ford revamps Mustang Mach-E with more power, longer range, and fresh styling

Car Updates

Ford introduces updated Mustang Mach-E range with refreshed styling, new features and more power and range on select variants.

It may not be Australia’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV), but the Mustang Mach-E is certainly one of the coolest looking and thanks to a late 2025 update it now represents a more compelling buying proposition, with more performance and increased range on select variants.

Taking its name from the famous Ford Mustang muscle car, the Mustang Mach-E was Ford’s first global electric vehicle so carried a heavy weight of expectation in its US home market where it was launched in 2020, and internationally, including Australia, where it arrived in late 2023.

But like many legacy carmakers, Ford has found the transition to EVs challenging and the Mustang hasn’t lived up to sales expectations, with Ford Australia shaving thousands off the launch price of the entire range within two months of its launch and reducing prices further again in June 2024.

The good news is that the Mach-E has for some time now been far more competitively priced than it was at launch and the newly facelifted lineup arrives with pricing that is between $9,175 and $14,000 below the launch pricing of the equivalent variant range back in 2023.

Now, as before, the Mach-E comes in a three-variant range comprising the entry-level Select priced from $65,990 (MRLP), the Mustang Mach-E Premium from $80,490 (MRLP) and the range-topping Mustang Mach-E GT from $98,490 (MRLP).

This pricing places it on a much more competitive footing with its key rival the Tesla Model Y, which sells for between $55,900 to $82,900, while the various upgrades and technical changes accompanying this update mean the new Mach-E makes a generally stronger case for itself.

Starting with the entry-level Mach-E Select, an upgraded electric motor brings a bump in power and torque to 212kW (+14kW) and 525Nm (+95Nm), while its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is now slightly larger at 73kWh (+1kWh) although range remains the same as the previous model at 470km (WLTP).

Moving up the grades the mid-spec Mach-E Premium gets the same revised electric motor and outputs as the Select, meaning its peak power is down slightly on the old model’s 216kW but peak torque is up by a meaningful 95Nm at 525Nm

Both the Mach-E Select and Premium remain rear-wheel driven with the main technical advantage of the latter being its larger 88kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery and superior 600km (WLTP) range.

The upgraded battery is a slightly smaller capacity than the previous generation’s 91kWh unit, but efficiency improvements mean its range remains intact.

Among those efficiency improvements are a new heat pump, fitted to all three Mach-E variants, which is designed to improve vehicle energy efficiency while heating or cooling the cabin.

The range-topping GT remains the only dual-motor all-wheel drive variant in the Mach-E lineup but benefits from a substantial performance boost that sees maximum system power increase to 434kW (+76kW), and torque climb to an impressive 955Nm (+95Nm).

Despite its extra oomph, and while retaining the superseded model’s 91kWh battery, the Mach-E GT also now boasts an increase in its driving range over the new old model, up by 25km to 515km (WLTP).

The GT and Premium both also benefit from improved charging times, dropping from an estimated 45 minutes to 36 minutes to recharge from 10% to 80% when using a 150kW DC fast charger.

Both Select and Premium variants also feature new suspension hardware and tuning – specifically, updated sway bars, springs and dampers – that Ford says provides a more comfortable ride without losing the Mach-E's sporting feel.

Now, as before, the Mustang Mach-E takes many of its styling cues from its famous internal-combustion powered namesake, including its fastback roof line, short rear deck, wide hips, flared wheel arches and distinctive vertical taillight array, not to mention the iconic galloping pony emblem.

But there are several new design and features accompanying this update including new wheel designs on all models, matte black lower body cladding and body colour wheel arch mouldings on the Premium, and a refreshed grille design for the GT.

The Select series also now comes standard with the same projector beam headlamps as the Premium and GT models.

Inside, all variants adopt a new column-mounted shifter in place of the previous rotary gear dial, and the front row seats have been upgraded to offer 10-way power adjustment, versus the previous 8-way configuration.

Despite being conceived as a direct rival for the Tesla Model Y, Ford’s electric Pony Car has found the going tough since launch, with sales as of November of just 435 units for the first 11 months of 2025, versus 20,241 Tesla Model Y sold over the same period.
