GAC Aion UT electric hatchback confirmed for Australia with sub-$32k pricing
Chinese car maker GAC confirms fourth model for its local lineup with the upcoming compact electric Aion UT.

Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) may be one of the newest Chinese brands to call Australia home but it’s wasting no time getting settled, announcing a fourth new model will join its lineup from the second quarter.
GAC expands its Australian model lineup
The GAC Aion UT is a compact battery electric hatchback that will be offered in two trim grades, both offering up to 430km (WLTP) of range and with prices starting from $31,990 (MRLP).
The Aion UT will join the brand’s existing lineup which comprises the Aion V, an all-electric medium SUV; the EMZoom, an internal-combustion (ICE) powered compact-SUV; and the M8, a seven-seat people mover with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
GAC Aion UT pricing and trim levels
The electric hatchback will also act as a price leader for the brand, with a sharp $31,990 (MRLP) sticker for the entry-level Aion UT Premium, rising to $35,990 for the Aion UT Luxury.
This pitches it head-to-head with a pack of affordably-priced small electric models from rival Chinese brands, including the BYD Atto 2 Dynamic compact SUV ($31,990), the GWM Ora Lux compact hatch ($33,990 driveaway), the Chery E5 Urban SUV ($38,990), the Geely EX2 hatch (Price TBC), and the MG4 EV Urban (Price TBC).
Battery, range and charging performance
Featuring a 60kWh battery the Aion UT also matches or exceeds the claimed range of most of these rivals, including the Chery E5 Urban which also achieves 430km from its 61.1kWh battery.
The LFP battery handles a maximum of 87kW DC charging and charges from 30 to 80% in around 24 minutes, with the drivetrain using a claimed 16.4kWh/100km (WLTP).

GAC Aion UT size, boot space and dimensions
Measuring 4,270mm in overall length and sitting on a 2,750m wheelbase, the Aion UT is similar size to fellow Chinese EV rivals Smart #1 and Leapmotor A10 electric SUVs and boasts a good-sized 321-litre boot that expands to 689 litres with the rear seats folded.
Performance and driving hardware
A single electric motor drives the front wheels delivering outputs of 150kW/210Nm, propelling the 1,670kg hatch from 0-100km/h in a respectable 7.3 seconds.
Alloy wheels clad with 215/55R17 tyres are standard on both variants, with suspension via front McPherson struts and a torsion beam at the rear.
Interior technology, infotainment and safety
The interior features a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, with Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard, along with an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot and remote-control functions via a smartphone app.
On the safety front, the Aion UT boasts seven airbags including a centre airbag, and a comprehensive array of advanced driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and more.
GAC Aion UT Luxury v Premium: What’s the difference?
Over and above the standard equipment fitted to the entry-level Premium, the Luxury variant adds a powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade, wireless phone charging and a ventilated driver’s seat.

Launch offers and pre-order incentives
As part of the launch phase, GAC Australia is offering the first 600 customers who pre-order between 12 March and 9 April 2026 an introductory driveaway pricing offer of $30,990 for the Premium and $35,990 for the Luxury, plus a bonus 10A portable charger and a 22kW wall charger.
Additionally, anyone who test drives a GAC vehicle during the promotional period will automatically be entered into a competition to win one of two GAC Aion UTs.
Warranty, servicing and dealer network
The Aion UT is supported by GAC’s eight-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, with the battery covered by a separate eight-year 200,000km warranty.
The car also comes with five years of roadside assistance, subject to servicing at a GAC dealership of which there are currently 19 in Australia.
While still relatively new to Australia, GAC is well established in its Chinese domestic market, where it started building commercial vehicles in the late 1990s in partnership with Toyota and Honda, before branching out into its own passenger cars in 2010.
The brand is ranked among the top five or six Chinese car makers with annual sales of more than two million vehicles, with design centres in Milan, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and a growing presence in over 70 markets internationally.
