Honda’s tiny electrically powered Super-One hatch has been greenlit for sale in Australia in the second half of 2026, with the pint-sized model set to do battle with micro-car class rivals including the Fiat 500, Abarth 500e and Kia Picanto.

The Honda Super-One was one of the stars of the recent Japan Mobility Show, with Honda Australia surprising the market by confirming it would add the micro-EV to its local lineup.

The nuggety battery-electric hatch is a development of the Honda Super EV concept unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July of this year.

What makes the Super-One unique?

It is designed to compete in Japan’s ultra-competitive Kei car category, which is populated by small, highway-legal vehicles with strict regulations on their size, engine capacity, and power output.

Kei cars are rarely seen in the Australian market unless as grey imports, making Honda’s decision to add the tiny Super-One to its lineup surprising.

But, with its fully electric drivetrain the Super-One will add a much-needed EV variant to Honda’s local range, which is currently dominated by larger internal-combustion and hybrid-electric powered models.

What are its expected specifications

Final specifications for the Super-One remain unconfirmed but overseas reports indicate it will share some of its drivetrain and underpinnings with Honda’s current N-One e, which has a single front-drive electric motor, a 30kWh battery and a range of around 295km.

Dimensionally, Honda’s new four-door, four-seat hatch measures less than 3,600mm long, 1,600mm wide, and is just 1,550mm high, making it particularly agile and easy to park in tight city streets.

Design and driving features

Honda Australia President and CEO Jay Joseph said the new model would be a unique option for city-living Australians, one that marries fun-to-drive dynamics with trademark Honda innovation.

“Honda Super-One is a unique proposition for Australians living and working in dense urban environments, blending small car usability with premium Honda design and engineering,” Mr Joseph said.

Aside from its distinctive styling, characterised by a wide stance, chunky tyres and prominently flared fenders, the Super-One features a Boost Mode which sharpens power output and synchronises the simulated seven-speed transmission and Active Sound Control system to generate fake engine sound and gearshift feel.

Testing and local adaption

Despite its Japanese Kei car origins, Honda claims the Super-One will be fit for purpose in overseas markets including Australia, thanks to extensive testing on various road surfaces and under diverse climate conditions in Japan, the UK, and other countries across Asia.

Honda Australia has also committed to additional local testing to ensure the new model’s ride, handling and EV charging solutions are optimised for local conditions.

“Honda is renowned for our attention to detail and reliability. That’s why the Honda Super-One will launch in Australia following completion of a local testing program,” Mr Joseph said.

“It is important that our customers have confidence the same commitment to quality Honda has delivered consistently over the past 55 years in Australia extends into the new EV and e:HEV era.”

How much will the Super-One cost?

Pricing hasn’t yet been released but the only other electrically-powered competitor in the micro-car class is the Abarth 500e which ranges from $58,900 to $60,500, while the ICE-powered Fiat 500 costs between $28,900 and $52,500.
