Volkswagen-owned Skoda is the latest European car maker to meet the rising challenge of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) with the introduction of more competitively equipped and priced models, including the updated Enyaq.

The Skoda Enyaq is a battery electric medium SUV that was first launched in Australia in November 2024, but which had been on sale in Europe since early 2021, hence the arrival of an updated model just 10 months after its local launch.

Designed and built in Europe the Enyaq is based on the Volkswagen Group’s scalable MEB platform, with the new MY26 models debuting a new wagon body style, facelifted styling, upgraded equipment and competitive performance, range and pricing.

The established Enyaq coupe has also been overhauled and now boasts additional features and better range thanks to improved aerodynamics.

Leading the charge for Skoda against an array of keenly priced Chinese and other rivals including the BYD Sealion 7, Tesla Model Y and Leapmotor C10 is the Skoda Enyaq 60 Select which starts from a competitive $50,990 (MRLP), or $54,990 driveaway.

The Enyaq 60 Select debuts a new, larger SUV body style that was previously unavailable in Australia and features a 63kWh battery and single electric motor driving the rear wheels.

The motor offers outputs of 150kW/310Nm, with the combination delivering 0-100km/h acceleration of 8.1sec, and a claimed range of 410km (WLTP). The battery is capable of DC charging at 165kW (10-80% in 24 minutes), and AC charging at 11kW (0-100% in 6.5 hours).

Standard features of the 60 Select include 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, LED headlights with Light Assist function, rain sensing wipers, LED tail lights, heated front seats with Loft fabric design, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power tailgate with Virtual Pedal and tri-zone climate control air conditioning are also standard.

Stepping up to the Enyaq 85 Sportline brings a bigger 82kWh battery, more performance and superior range for $59,990 (MRLP), or $63,990 driveaway.

The 85 Sportline gets the same SUV body style as the 60 Select but additional features including 20-inch alloy wheels, progressive steering, Matrix LED headlights with Dynamic Light Assist, power adjustable front seats with memory and massage, heated rear outboard seats, gear shift paddles for selectable brake energy recuperation and Sportline design including leather/Suedia trim.

The 85 Sportline’s single electric motor delivers a boost in power and torque to 210kW/545Nm, which lowers the 0-100km/h sprint to 6.7 seconds while the larger battery helps achieve a superior 547km (WLTP) of range.

At the top of the range is the updated Enyaq Coupe 85 Sportline, which costs $65,990 (MRLP) or $68,990 driveaway and packages the bigger 82kWh battery and boosted 210kW/545Nm outputs in a sleeker coupe-style body.

The Coupe 85 Sportline’s slipperier body style helps it eke out an additional 14km of range to achieve an impressive 561km (WLTP), and it also boasts additional features like adaptive chassis control, 21-inch alloy wheels, augmented reality head-up display, and a CANTON premium sound system.

Skoda Australia Product Manager Glenn Reid said the Enyaq and recently launched Elroq medium SUV show how serious the brand is about competing in the battery electric space.

“The Skoda Enyaq is unchallenged with its ability to start from just over $50,000 as a European-designed, built and engineered SUV with a 7-year warranty,” Mr Reid said.

“Competitors from the US, China and Korea cannot blend this availability of price, torque, range and having items such as metallic paint and all cables included as standard for the price.”

All three Enyaq variants are comprehensively equipped with standard safety features including Skoda’s Travel Assist system (which incorporates adaptive cruise control, adaptive lane assist and emergency assist), along with front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and seven airbags.

Other standard equipment includes a 13-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, DAB+ digital radio and eight-speaker audio.

A range of options packs are available for the different variants, including a $6,000 Signature pack for the 60 Select which includes:

  • Matrix LED headlights with dynamic light assist
  • Dynamic rear indicator function
  • Illuminated Tech Deck grille
  • Head-up display with augmented reality
  • CANTON Sound system with 12 speakers
  • Surround-view camera (360 degrees)
  • Power adjustable driver’s seat with memory and massage functions
  • Power adjustable lumbar support front seats
  • Roll-up sunshade rear side windows.
