How to change wiper blades

Whenever it rains do your wipers streak or smear the water across your windscreen instead of wiping it perfectly clear? Are they chattering or noisy? Either way, it sounds like it’s about time you change your wiper blades.

Wiper blades naturally wear out and need to be replaced about every six months.

Although changing wiper blades might look easy, it can be a bit frustrating if you’ve never done it before. Here are some straight forward instructions to get you through stress-free:

• Firstly, ensure the width of the wiper blade selected is correct by simply measuring the blade width. As for the length of the wiper blade, if they are too long, they can be trimmed in the final stage (see step 5).
• Lift the blade assembly (the arm of the wiper) from the windscreen.
• Remove old blade by squeezing the end with the clip attached together and sliding it out of the arm.
• Slide new wiper blade into all blade claws and lock the metal clip into place. Be sure to double check all claws are engaged in the backing. If they are not they will damage your windscreen.
• Whilst holding the blade, cut the refill to the required length, but leave a minimum of 25mm from the end claw.
