Volkswagen releases new range of Amarok kit
A locally designed and developed suspension lift kit is among an extensive range of accessories now available for Volkswagen’s Amarok 4x4 ute.
If there’s one thing dual cab ute owners love more than a plateau-like torque curve, it’s the ability to kit their vehicles out to their own personal tastes and Volkswagen has just announced a range of new accessories for its most popular local model, the Amarok.
Released just over a year ago, the second-generation Amarok has enjoyed a solid first year of sales, averaging 854 vehicles a month or 10,200 sales per annum with the trajectory expected to increase as supply of popular premium models improves.
Based as it is on the Australian-designed and engineered Ford Ranger, the Amarok already has plenty of Aussie DNA in its make-up but can now also add a range of locally informed – and in some cases developed – accessories to its kit bag.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Ryan Davies said the new accessory range was designed with customer lifestyles in mind, including the ability to buy accessories or finance them from the dealership as part of buying their new vehicle.
The range, which includes off-road lift kits, roof-top camping tents and an Australian-designed integrated canopy, all come with a factory-backed five-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty and can be fitted by any of Volkswagen's 100-plus nationwide dealer network.
For off-road enthusiasts looking to improve on the Amarok’s already respectable 4x4 ability, the Off-Road Expedition Range includes an Old Man Emu front and rear suspension lift kit that improves ground clearance by 40mm over standard.
With the Amarok sporting both four-cylinder and V6 turbodiesel power and some also equipped with bull-bars, there’s a choice of two different front suspension packages designed to accommodate the different front-end weights at a cost of $1,515 (MRLP).
The rear raised suspension can also be tailored for either standard use ($2,315), or a heavy-duty 300kg constant loading ($2,510).
Additional underbody protection complete with Amarok insignia is available at a cost of $1,660, with matte-black wheelarch flares ($1,640) and body side mouldings ($1,075) to dress up the exterior.
Volkswagen doesn’t have its own bullbar but does offer a nudge bar with integrated LED light bar and Amarok insignia in silver or black for $1,600.
A snorkel is another piece of essential kit that many off-roaders fit for additional peace of mind in water crossings and dusty conditions, with the Volkswagen unit costing $1,180.
It’s styled to suit the vehicle side profile and comes complete with Amarok insignia and a reversible air ram.
Additional items on the list of off-road-oriented goodies includes recovery boards ($350) and a snatch kit recovery bag set ($225).
For tradies and other Amarok owners looking for all-weather security, the canopy range has been designed by the same Australian-based designers who completed the vehicle exterior, ensuring it integrates nicely with the rest of the design.

Canopy colours can be matched to the ute’s exterior paint colour and include a twin sliding side window design, a left sliding window and rear swing-up window ($5,730), or twin swinging side windows ($6,100).
The canopy includes tinted side and rear glass, a pop-up air vent, and central locking integrated with the Amarok's key fob, plus push-button opening for the rear hatch and side windows.
For those who prefer a roll cover, the selection includes a manual unit in aluminium or black ($4,255) and a Volkswagen-designed electric roll cover in powder-coated black ($4,690). There’s also a soft tonneau cover (from $1,145), a modular bedliner ($865), and a chunky styling bar in stainless steel or black matte ($2,810) for Core, Life, and Style variants.
There’s also a selection of roof bars available and for those keen on avoiding spiders, snakes and crocs while camping, a roof bar platform mount costing $1,440 and genuine Amarok-branded two-person rooftop tent with ladder ($3,345).
Finally, helping keep things organised is an internal drawer system ($3,995) and cargo slide system ($3,045), a toolbox ($965), and a fridge slide ($780).
