Transurban is partnering with the Queensland Government to develop plans to upgrade approximately 10km of the western section of the Logan Motorway. Learn more about the project and how you can have your say.

An upgrade to the Logan West motorway has be proposed.

Transurban, in partnership with the Queensland Government, is developing plans to upgrade about 10km of the western section of the Logan Motorway, between Formation Street and the Mount Lindesay Highway.

If approved, the upgrade is forecast to improve travel times, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety across this critical section of road network.

Why is the project needed

The Logan Motorway is a key transport corridor across South East Queensland with around 210,000 trips made each day, including over $1 billion in freight.

However congestion on the motorway is getting worse which is impacting productivity and road safety.

If nothing is done, average speeds on key sections of the Logan Motorway could drop to just 15km/h during peak periods by 2031.

The proposed Logan West Upgrade project aims to provide congestion relief and reduce travel times while improving road safety, , ensuring the motorway meets the future needs of the region.

Key project features

  • Additional lanes: An extra lane in each direction between the Centenary Motorway and the Mt Lindesay Highway, and an additional lane westbound between Boundary Road and Formation Street.
  • Formation Street interchange upgrade: Enhancements to support growing communities and industrial areas.
  • Smart motorway technologies: Installation of advanced systems for better traffic management.
  • Increased vehicle height capacity: Modifications to accommodate over-dimensional vehicles.

Expected benefits

  • Reduced travel times: Up to 20 minutes saved during peak periods by 2031.
  • Less congestion: Additional capacity on the motorway means fewer vehicles on local roads, with around 6,100 trucks and cars predicted to be removed from local streets each day.
  • Job creation: Hundreds of local jobs will be generated during the project.
  • Enhanced safety: Improved road safety, reliability, and better connectivity for motorists and freight.
