Brighten up with a drive on the Sunflower Route

The 50km stretch of road from Warwick to Allora is host to a glorious display of golden giants standing guard, reminding locals and visitors that summer is still in full swing.
Coming into bloom from as early as October, with a few crops holding on until the later days in March, the giant flowers adorning the Warwick sunflower fields are a spectacular sight, setting waves of gold against black soil, lush green crops and deep red sorghum.
The fields attract adventurers, nature lovers, and photographers alike, hoping for the perfect, Instagram-worthy snap of this local marvel.
‘The Sunflower Route’ takes you from the heart of Warwick through some of the region’s most picturesque countryside.
You will pass dazzling patchwork fields, and land in the historic and charming streets of Allora, dappled with timber buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s, as well as quaint gardens and parks perfect for taking a break amongst the natural beauty of the area.
The area also offers the opportunity to visit the heritage listed Glengallan Homestead, if you’re not quite ready to cut the road trip short.
With the South-East Queensland summer season can go from bright one day to grey and gloomy the next, it’s always worth making a quick phone call to the ‘Warwick Visitor Information Centre’ before making the trip.
While they may not be able to offer up a guarantee you’ll see the sunflowers in full bloom, the friendly staff members can provide travellers with maps and further information on where to find them.
With some luck and preparation, flower fanatics and day-trippers looking for a bright experience will be able to see for themselves the local wonder that is the Warwick sunflower fields along the Sunflower Route.
