Audi A1 Ambition (2011)
by Barry Green,reviewed April 2011
The Ambition is the sporty one among Audi’s new A1 duo, the other being the cheaper (by $2,750) Attraction.
A feisty, fun and frugal (on fuel) offering, it has much in common with the VW Polo (90 kW 200 Nm engine, architecture, etc), but the Audi badge comes at a premium.
Handling is agile, steering quick and ride firm. Our test car came with standard 6-speed manual gearbox, which impressed with its smooth shifts and well-placed ratios. A 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) is optional. Space and comfort is biased towards driver and one passenger, with the rear seating cramped. A five door version – due for release later in 2011 - should redress this somewhat.
